Where to buy alcohol in Sweden

Tuesday, 27 April 2010

I learned in my Swedish class (from the book!) that 40% of all alcohol purchased by Swedes is purchased OUTSIDE of Sweden. Incredible isn't it. This is an ad from the local newpaper advertising prices for alcohol in Germany. To buy this alcohol you have to drive over the toll bridge (roughly $50 with return) to Denmark , drive through Denmark, and then take a ferry to Germany. And that is just if you live in the very south of Sweden. Even though I don't drink myself, I don't criticize them for this. Alcohol is sold through government controled stores and is heavily taxed. Very heavily taxed. Enough to make them run for the border.
