Slippers at School

One of the things that I love about school here in Sweden is that they kids wear slippers. I know that sounds crazy to any American but the weather here is so harsh most of the year that the kids have to have loads of clothing in the winter including big winter boots. So in Sweden each child has their own cubby for coats, snow pants, rain gear mittens hats etc. Swedes are nothing if not practical and they are serious about being outside here. According to Swedes, "there is no bad weather, just bad clothing/gear". They aren't kidding. So when the kids come in they trade out their shoes (yes even in the spring and early fall) for slippers. Most popular these days are crocs (or croc like) shoes. It fits right in with the other idea that Swedes are so insistant on being "mysig" or cozy. It's not just a word here. It's a verb, it's an adjective, a noun. It's a way of life.
