Daylight and white eyebrows

Remember in science when they taught that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction? That is certainly true in Sweden. All those really dark days in Nov-Jan are rough but this is the reaction here in June. Check out the list below. The first set of times are when the sun actually rises and sets. The second set is how long the light lasts. My favorite part is next. Length of visible light 19hrs 32 min. You have to love that in Sweden. It is what keeps you going when the days are light only a few short hours in late Dec. You have to also think that we live in the very south of Sweden. The farther north you go the longer your day. It makes it confusing for the kids to sleep in that's what black out shades are for right?

Swedes do appreciate the sun. It is stronger than an appreciation actually. Maybe borderline obsession. If you thought that Swedes have fair skin, guess again. They actually take in the sun incredibly well. The stereo type that Swedes are blond is not a stereo type. I have never seen people as blond as they are here. In particular the children. Sandy blond like our kids is brown here. You are blond here when your eyebrows glow white because they have been lightened so much by the sun. Last summer when we were at a resort that caters to Scandinavians there were 30 kids in our daughter's day camp. 28 of them were blond with ours (sandy colored) being on the dark end.
