Traveling

We have been so busy lately with traveling and having "adventures" as we like to call them. An adventure can be anything from a new bicycle path to a local park to something more elaborate such as our trip to Norway last week. In each we try to channel fun and education for the kids as there is always a challenging element as well. Last week we spent 40 hours in the car driving. We went to Berlin first. The kids know the routine in the car and rarely complain of the length. They ask when are we there and think anything shorter than 10 hours is short, we obviously have warped them on that. Norway was a road trip to be sure. We spent no less than 6 hours in the car each day. The scenery was absolutely spectacular. Better than spectacular. I can't think of a more scenic drive. It made me long for home in some ways and appreciate that I was abroad in others. It rained the entire time we were there. Wettest summer in 100 years. This was all over Norway but particularly in Bergen on the west coast. Considering their average rainfall a year is 88 inches, that is a lot of rain. We stayed in little outdoor camping shelters mostly. I think we will have to take Keegan camping a little more as when he saw the first one he cried and said he wanted to stay in a big house, not the little tiny one. The rain didn't deter us and considering we were in the car most of the time it didn't really effect us either. We had lovely picnics of brown Gjetost (Norwegian goat cheese) and Hjortron Jam with fresh bread. The upside of all the rain was that the waterfalls, and there are LOADS of them, were spectacular. Despite the unbelievable cost of everything in Norway I would highly recommend going.
